Abstract

1452224 A composite closure for sealing a container ANCHOR HOCKING CORP 7 Jan 1974 [8 Jan 1973] 00568/74 Heading B8T A composite closure cap 1 for sealing a container 9 comprises a plastics moulded outer ring 2 having engageable means such as lugs 6 for engaging with a beaded rim 8 of the container 9 and a metal cover 3, disposed inside the outer ring 2 and having a gasket channel 11 formed between a flange 12 and an inclined wall 13 for receiving a gasket seal 15 and a closed vent 18 weakened by score lines 19, the outer ring 2 having integrally formed penetrator carrier 20 which carries a penetrator button 23, the integral connection with the ring 2 being in the form of a hinge 21 and frangible bridge 22 whereby the bridge 22 is broken and the penetrator is moved to puncture the closed vent 18 thereby assisting in lifting the cap 1 against the sealing forces which include vacuum seals. The bridge 22 is a tamper-indicator. In another embodiment Figs. 7-11 (not shown) the penetrator carrier (31) is linked with the outer ring (32) at one place (47) only and therefore the cap (30) in this embodiment does not function as a tamper-indicating cap.
