Abstract

1,145,636. Portable containers; container closures. OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc. 3 Oct., 1967 [3 Oct., 1966], No. 44965/67. Headings B8D and B8T. [Also in Division A4] A plastics tub-shaped container (10), Figs. 1, 3 (not shown), having a mouth of greater diameter than its base, is formed with a lower stacking bead 14, Fig. 2, and an upper, thicker, stacking shoulder 15, which can interengage as shown with a like bead &c. on another container. A web 16 connects the stacking shoulder 15 to a top rim 17 having a downwardly-flared outer camming surface 21. Container closures.-A plastics closure 25, Fig. 4, is snapped-over the top rim 17 of the container, and has a skirt 30 with a shaped lower lip 31 which cams across the flared rim surface 21 as the closure is applied. The closure lip 31 seals against the edge 20 of the top rim 17, and the inner wall 27 of the closure seals against the container wall, just below the stacking shoulder 15.
