Abstract

965,842. Snap closures. PLASTIC PACKAGING Ltd. Sept. 5, 1962 [Sept. 9, 1961], No. 34104/62. Heading B8T. A closure formed from sheet material for a container 1 has two sealing portions at 12, 5 co-operating with seats on the container and an elastic neck 7 joining the sealing portions which is stressed when in position to hold the sealing portions against the seats. Both the closure and the container are deep vacuum drawn from sheet polystyrol and the container has a roller lip 2 and an annular groove 3 separated by a curved area 4. The closure has an annular collar 13 which fits over the lip 2 and a rib 9 which takes into the groove 3, the resilience of the part 7 maintaining the seals. An additional seal is formed between the wall 1 of the container and a bead 8 in the base of the closure. The collar 13 has sets of clips 14 of different heights engaging the rolled lip 2 to allow for variations in the size of the lip. The rib 9 is of greater diameter than the smallest diameter of the neck 7 to allow stacking of the closures. Parts of the closure may be made thinner to provide flexibility.
