Abstract

1,169,978. Container closures. EX-CEL INDUSTRIES Inc. 28 Nov., 1967 [29 Nov., 1966], No. 54162/67. Heading B8T. A flexible, integral closure member 20 foracontainer 30 consists of a top 22 connected to an annular skirt 26 by an annular arcuate portion 34 to which is joined an annular member 36 capable of forming a seal against a rim surrounding the opening of the container to which the closure is applied. The container may be a bottle 30 having a rib 28 against which the member 36 is stretched during the capping operation. The top 22 is flexible to enable it to bulge and partially compensate pressure changes. To facilitate removal of the cap 20 from the bottle 30 the skirt 26 may have a tab (142), Fig. 7 (not shown). The closure may be of synthetic plastics material, such as linear polyethylene, and is re-usable.
