Abstract

1391071 Caps for containers CONTINENTAL CAN CO Inc 8 March 1972 [8 March 1971] 10717/72 Heading B8T A closure cap of the press-on turn-off type for a container having a mouth finish 25 which includes a flat top portion 26, and a threaded side portion 30, 31, 32; comprises a cap body having a top panel 6 and a depending skirt 7, the annular margin of said top panel being in the form of a gasket-supporting channel 10 and having a frusto-conical inner portion 15 and a relatively narrow arcuate outer portion 16, and a fluxed plastisol ring gasket 8, 11 lining said channel 15, 16 and said depending skirt 7. On application of the cap the gasket material 8 is pinched by the sharply radiused inside edge 27 of the container mouth so that only a relatively thin section 35 of gasket remains and acts as a barrier to oxygen permeation, and the gasket portion 11 deforms to pass over the threads 32 and conform to them. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,044,419.
