Abstract

554,376. Airtight closures for containers. DOULTON & CO., Ltd., EGGLETON, E. W. G., and BYWORTH, S. H. F. Dec. 22, 1941, No. 16526. [Class 125 (iii)] A lid, stopper &c. for pottery, glass and other containers has a projecting skirt 5 of rubber or other resilient material which rides over a surface 2 which over the whole area of contact slopes outwardly and downwardly continuously to form an airtight closure. The skirt may be held by a bead 6 entering a recess and the seating surface of the lid may be flat and arranged to engage a flat surface on the top of the container. A plug or cork may be provided in the lid to admit air, and a tab may be provided in the skirt so that it may be drawn outwards to break the seal. Adhesive tape may be applied over the joint.
