On applying the unbroken wall a of the peripheral flange of a disc closure to the rim g of a bottle, the rim is engaged between the undercut edge c of the half a of the flange and a resilient packing washer d within the closure, the corresponding part 49 D of the washer d being clamped down on to the upper edge of the remaining half of the rim g. An elastic liner e is also provided, which may take part in the sealing action. In Fig. 8, the part b is cut away at i to leave a depending part j for engagement with the side of the rim of the bottle and for engagement beneath it when it is undercut as at k. This closure may also include small cut-away parts f<SP>1</SP>.
