Abstract

500,954. Vacuum closures for jars and the like. MAREK, A. J. Aug. 17, 1937, No. 22573. [Class 125 (iii)] A vacuum closure for bottles, jars, and the like, has a lid 3 to close the mouth of the receptacle and a valve disc 1 or strip lying over a perforation 5 in a recessed part 2 of the lid. A cap 6 with an indentation 7 fits above the valve disc in the recess. While evacuation is proceeding the disc 1 is lifted and air passes out through the perforation 5 and through perforations 8 in the cap 6. The valve disc may be arranged between two lids and may have a central aperture while the material of the disc covers perforations in the lower lid. The disc may be applied to a crown cork and may be formed of material which will project into the air outlet perforations when the disc is pressed on them. The top may have a tear-off tab, or be of the screw form shown in Fig. 7 in which a deep recess 26 houses the valve disc 1 and a tight fitting cap 27 which can be depressed to limit the disc movement. In the modification shown in Fig. 9 the valve consists of a rubber strip 34 retained by a ring 37 across the perforated base 35 of a recess in the lid 36 of a tobacco tin.
