Abstract

651,975. Closures for bottles &c. E-Z OPEN CAP CO. Jan. 20, 1948, No. 1713. Convention date, May 1, 1940. [Class 125(iii)] A vacuum closure cap for bottles, jars &c. comprises a thin top portion 12 extending to the periphery of the container mouth, an upwardly-extending annular channel 18 formed about the edge of the top 12, an annular deformable sealing gasket 20 seated at one edge in channel 18 and containing the outer surface of the container, a depending skirt 24 supporting gasket 20, a passage 26 extending through the upper portion of the skirt, and a channel 28 formed by upward deformation of the cap top 12, passage 26 and channel 28 being in alignment whereby a gasketpiercing tool 30 can be moved through the side of the cap to a point beyond the container wall to vent the container. The gasket may be sealed in channel 18 by cementing or by crimping the channel at 32. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 comprises also a cap constructed as above but from which the annular channel 18 is omitted; the gasket is forced into the radial channel 28 as the closure is pressed onto the container or is formed with an upstanding nut which projects into channel 28. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
