Abstract

502,234. Vacuum closures for containers. WHITE, W. P. July 26, 1938, No. 22269. [Class 125 (iii)] A closure for sealing a packing receptacle V consists of a cap with a top 10 and a depending annular skirt 11 ; the cap carries a gasket 12 of plastic sealing material which fits on the top edge of the receptacle wall. The skirt 11 has a shallow portion 11a of relatively small diameter adjacent the top, and a lower portion of larger diameter with a strengthening beaded edge 14. The upper part of the portion of larger diameter has a number of inwardly projecting portions or embossments 11b, which fit closely to the neck of the receptacle. The gasket is compressed as shown in Fig. 5, when the air is exhausted from the receptacle and the cap pressed down. The beaded edge 14 is spaced from the receptacle wall and permits the use of a lever tool to force the cap off so that it is not necessary to puncture the cap.
