Abstract

525,891. Closures for containers. WHITE CAF CO. March 2, 1939, No: 6870: Convention date, Nov. 10, 1938. [Class 125 (iii)] A closure cap, pressed from sheet metal, for a bottle or like container for preserving and dispensing food has a top 20 with a dependent skirt 21 with a lower flared part 22. The lower part contains an elastic compressible gasket 24 the lower end portion of which is secured by the curled prongs 25 at the bottom of the flared skirt part 22. The container neck has a sealing portion 11 with a shoulder 15, and a lip 16 having a smaller diameter than the sealing portion and having a height sufficient to prevent the cap from toppling off when it is placed on the container without any engagement of the sealing surfaces. When the closure is effected the cap is pressed home so that the gasket is wedged as shown between the sealing parts 11, 15 and the skirt of the cap. A prising tool may be inserted between the shoulder 12 of the container and the bottom of the cap to effect the opening. The interior surfaces of the cap may be lacquered where any acid or like liquid is stored in the container. Specification 525,102 is referred to.
