Abstract

507,942. Bottle closures. BARLOW, R., and STEPHENS, W. A. Feb. 8, 1938, No. 3922. [Class 125 (iii)] A flanged lid forming a vacuum closure for a bottle or like container 1, Fig. 1, is flared outwardly at the lower edge portion 7 of the flange 6 and engages an elastic packing ring 4 secured in a groove 3 provided in the bottle neck the ring 4 projecting from the 'groove 3 in sealing contact with the flared portion 7. The groove 3 is preferably of semi-circular or V -shaped cross-section and the packing ring 4, of square or rectangular cross-section, is fitted therein with a diagonal substantially at right-angles to the axis of the container. The ring 4 may also be of circular cross-section. The flange 6 may be formed with a ridge 8, Fig. 6, constituting a restricted portion to engage the wall of the container. A locking ring 9 may be provided engaging beneath the lower edge of the part 2 and over the top of the cap or the flared portion 7.
