537,729. Closures for containers. CARTNER. J., and SUTCLIFFE, T. May 7, 1940, No. 8210 [Class 125 (iii)] A closure for a bottle 1 or other container consists of a cap with a narrow flange 3 the lower edge 4 of which embraces the rim 2 at the mouth of the container, and some relatively long tongues 5 depending from the lower edge 4. The upper parts of the tongues 5 are turned under the rim 2 of the bottle neck to engage it, while the lower parts are left depending from the flange and at a distance from the bottle neck so that a blunt instrument can force it from the neck. The narrow flange with tongues may extend round half the circumference of the cap, and a deep flange inturned under the rim 2 extend round the other half. The cap may also be secured by a jointed locking ring, and a cardboard disc or packing ring 7 may be included in the cap. Specification 445,143 is referred to.
