Abstract

484,161. Closures for bottles &c. BARLOW, R., STUCHBERY, A. L., and SUTCLIFFE, T. Oct. 29, 1936, Nos. 29402 and 31722. [Class 125 (iii)] A closure for bottles and like containers comprises packing 3 secured against twisting within the depending flange 2 of a cap 1 and adapted to engage a laterally projecting annular ridge 4 formed by inclined facets on the container. The cap is preferably of stepped form and the lower edge of the flange may be inwardly curled or turned or the flange may be grooved to secure the packing. A lining 10, which may be of ceresin paper, may be engaged by the packing, as shown in Fig. 3, so that it slips relatively when the cap is applied and cooperates in forming a closure along the facet 7 and a surface 13. More than one ridge may be provided on the container to engage the packing. A closuring-machine as described in Specification 255,632, [Class 125 (iii)], may be used so that radial pressure is applied to the flange and the sealing effected in the manner described in Specification 403,627. A shoulder 16 or a groove may be provided to facilitate opening and the shoulder may be engaged by a locking-ring. One of the Provisional Specifications comprises an arrangement wherein the lining is arranged so as to constitute a pocket in which the packing is enclosed, contact of the contents of the container with the packing being prevented.
