Abstract
1,041,944. Container closures. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Jan. 19, 1965, No. 2349/65. Heading B8T. A synthetic thermoplastics closure for a container comprises an outer cap 1 having an apertured crown 3 with a skirt 5 from which projections 6 extend inwardly and an inner cap 2 with an apertured crown 7 located against the outer crown, an outer skirt 10 on the inner cap gripping the neck 11, Fig. 5 (not shown), of the container so that relative rotation between the two is prevented, restricted relative rotation between the inner and outer caps for aligning &c. apertures 4, 8 therein being allowed by exterior projections 14 on the inner cap outer skirt 10 interengaging with lost-motion between the interior projections 6 on the skirt 5. The inner cap 2 is pressed on to the neck 11 of the container so that an annular rib 15 snaps under an annular rib 16 on the neck of the container, Fig. 7 (not shown). Teeth 13, Fig. 4 (not shown), on the interior of the skirt 10 engage with teeth 17, Fig. 5 (not shown), on the neck of the container, thereby preventing relative rotation between it and the inner cap 2. An inner skirt 9 helps to force the teeth 13, 17 into engagement. The outer cap 1 is pressed on to the inner cap 2 and is locked in position against axial displacement by a rib 5a which engages beneath the projections 14. As modifications, one of the annular ribs 15, 16 may be replaced by angularly spaced ribs, or they may both be omitted. If the container is sufficiently rigid the inner skirt 9 may also be omitted.
