Abstract

1,134,893. Caps for bottles &c. Z. M. ROEHR. 8 March, 1966 [29 Nov., 1965], No. 10093/66. Heading B8T. A tamper-proof cap for a bottle &c. has, at the lower end of its screw-threaded wall 5, a skirt 17 connected to the wall 5 through a rupturable zone. An inwardly pointing flange 20 on the skirt projects beneath a bead 22 on the bottle neck, a small gap 26 being provided in the axial direction between the flange 20 and bead 22 when the cap is fully screwed down. On removing the cap the initial torque loosens the engaged threads on the cap and bottle walls. Then further application of torque causes the flange 20 to engage the shoulder of the bead 22 and the skirt 17 to break off from the wall 5 around the rupturable zone. In the embodiment the rupturable zone comprises a series of circumferentially spaced bridges, the crosssectional areas of which are greater adjacent the skirt than adjacent the wall. One or more axial slits, extending partly or fully across the width of the skirt, may be provided to impart sufficient flexibility to the skirt to enable it to snap over the bead 22 on initial application of the cap. An outstanding flange 37 on the upper part of the skirt 17 enables the skirt to be gripped during application of the cap. The cap may be moulded integrally from plastics material, and may be provided with a packing disc 14 engaging in an internal groove 13 in the cap.
