Abstract

1,219,129. Bottle caps. POLYTOP CORP. 16 Feb., 1968 [16 Feb., 1967], No. 7748/68. Heading B8T. A cap for sealing bottles consists of a top 12 and a depending skirt 14 which has means, e.g. a screw-thread, to retain the cap on the bottle neck, a seal being formed with the neck by a circular resilient ring 18, a lip 28, and a deflecting cone 22. As the cap is screwed or pushed on the bottle, the cone 22 enters the neck, pressure of the neck on the cone causing inward twisting of the cone and the ring 18 to which it is attached. Further downward movement causes the lip 28 to engage with the top (34), Fig. 3 (not shown), of the neck, forming another seal. The cap is made of resilient material, e.g. polyethylene, and may include a dispensing spout. The cap may be secured by screw threads or by an interior rib on the skirt 14 snapping over a rib on the bottle neck.
