Abstract

507,014. Closures for containers. BARLOW, R., JACKSON, J. M., RUSSELL, A. S., and WORTHINGTON, J. Dec. 7, 1937, No. 33900. [Class 125 (iii)] A box or like container 1 has a flanged lid for vacuum closing with a sealing ring or compound 7 in a peripheral bed 6. The container 1 has an inwardly burled bead 2 at its rim which engages the centre of the sealing ring, and the flange 5 of the lid has a number of inward projections 9 which engage an outward bead 3 on the container wall. A ridge 4 round the container wall permits the use of a lever to prize up the lid to break the vacuum. The projections 9 are of wedge form so that,the lid is held firmly even when the sealing ring wears with repeated closings. The containers may be constructed of tin, glass, or of the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite."
