311,723. Gee, L. F., and Adams, F. E. Feb. 15, 1928. Vacuum closures.-Sheet metal cans or boxes adapted for evacuation are provided with a shallow inwardly impressed recess 12 formed in the bottom of the can or in the top of the lid thereof. The recess accommodates a flap valve 13 of indiarubber &c. which covers an aperture 11 through which the air in the can is evacuated and is protected by an outer sealing label &c. 15 stuck to the surface of the can or lid. The label may be disposed in an annular recess 14 surrounding the valve recess.
