Abstract

213,059. Alexander, W. B., and Stephen, A. Feb. 1, 1923. Vacuum closures.-Preserve bottles, glass jars, &c. are closed by a double closure comprising an inner cap a which enters the mouth of the vessel and makes a tight joint with the top of the vessel by means of a flange c and a packing-ring, and an outer cover h having a depending flange j making an hermetic joint with the exterior of the vessel through a packing-ring k, which engages a groove l therein or a ledge thereon. To ensure a tight joint between the cap a and the vessel, the outer cover h may exert pressure on a resilient member m housed in a recess i in the centre of the cap, or the cap mav have a central dome adapted for engagement with the cover h.
