Abstract

372,210. Closures for jars &c. THOMAS, A. A., 36, West 44th Street, New York, U.S.A. Sept. 11, 1931, No. 25574. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1930. [Class 125 (iii).] A closure for jars &c. incorporates an elastic diaphragm of steel, " bakelite," &c. which, by means of co-operating means on the jar &c. and closure, can be drawn into sealing contact with the rim of the jar &c. the relative dimensions of the rim and diaphragm being such that the diaphragm engages the rim at a material distance from the periphery of the diaphragm. As shown, the diaphragm 13 is secured between flanges 14, 16 of the top member 10 and shell 12, the shell having screw threads or a bayonetjoint 23. The diaphragm may be integral with and form part of a one-piece cap. A sealing gasket may be interposed between the rim and the diaphragm.
