Abstract
670,186. Valves. MULLER, J. April 25, 1949 [May 11, 1948], No. 10944/49. Class 135 [Also in Group XXVIII] In a pipe coupling (see Group XXVIII), particularly for connecting a pipe to a tank outlet containing a spring-loaded check valve 7, in which coupling is effected by relative axial movements of a sleeve 8 and a coupler body 13 containing a valve 49, the body carries actuating-means for the valves arranged in such a way that the coupler can only be disconnected when the valves are closed. The valve 49 comprises a ring 64 and a disc 55 between which is clamped a sealing ring 65 adapted to engage a seat 15. The stem 50 is guided in the hub 52 of a spider 53, and the valve rests when open in a conical baffle 67. A push-rod 54 for the valve 7 slidable in the hollow stem 50 is sealed by a spring- pressed packing ring 59. The valve 49 is actuated by a rack 51 and a pinion 73 on a spindle 69 mounted in a sealed bearing 70, Fig 3, on the coupler body, the spindle extending through an opening 88 in the sleeve 8, and having a handlever 68. A throw-over lever 74 and spring 75 hold the valve in its open or closed positions. The circular opening 88 lies at the end of a slot 90, the spindle 69 having a flat 89, Fig. 8, whereby it can rotate only when in the opening 88, i.e. in the coupled position of the sleeve, and cannot enter the slot 90 until the valve is closed. The check valve 7 may be actuated by a hand-lever 77, Fig. 3, spindle 78, lever 80, link 81, and the push-rod 54. The spindle 78 co-operates with an opening 91 and slot 92 in a similar manner to the spindle 69. The hand-lever 77 may be locked in its extreme positions by a spring-plunger 84.
