[Class 135] [Also in Group XVII] A valve for filling casks, &c., with liquid, in which operation of a single hand-lever simultaneously opens a spring-loaded valve member and compresses a rubber, &c., sleeve to seal the valve within the cask, comprises a cylindrical body a, Fig. 1, having a liquid inlet b and an air vent formed by apertures k<SP>1</SP> in an extension k and an annular space f<SP>1</SP> opening into a passage c. Communication between the inlet and a filling tube f is controlled by the spring-loaded valve member d co-operating with a detachable seat e and operable, through a stem d<SP>2</SP>, a lever m pivoted at m<SP>1</SP> to a pillar a<SP>4</SP> and a link l, by the hand-lever a<SP>2</SP> pivoted at a3. The flexible sleeve h, retained on the body between a fixed collar g and a loose collar j is compressed by engagement of the hand-lever with the loose collar. As liquid enters the cask, air is displaced through the vent until the apertures k<SP>1</SP> are submerged, when further rise of the liquid level in the cask ceases. To vary this level, the extension k may be formed with a rotatable sleeve k<SP>2</SP>, Fig. 3, having apertures k<SP>3</SP> for co-operation selectively with an axial slot k<SP>1</SP> in the extension and retained thereon by a nut k<SP>5</SP>. The apertures k<SP>3</SP> may be replaced by a single slot at an inclination to the slot k<SP>1</SP>.
