Abstract
628,581. Filling casks. RYDER & CO. (MANCHESTER), Ltd., T., ANDREWS, J. E., and FAWCETT, H. Oct. 1, 1946, No. 29200. [Class 21] [Also in Group XXIX] A device for filling casks comprises two axial pipes a, b, the inner a delivering liquid, and the outer b venting air, and means for securing the device in a bunghole bush consisting of a resilient ring m round the outer tube, which is compressed to expand into the bush, between a fixed collar i and a movable collar k, the latter being depressed by a hand lever g operating cams n. The pipe a is closed by a spring loaded rubber valve d connected to the lever g and raised when the lever g is depressed. A diaphragm h separates the valve spring from the liquid delivered through a connection c to the pipe a. Air is vented through the pipe b to a connection e. The collar k has a conical portion entering between the ring m and the pipe b. In an alternative form, the diaphragm itself acts as a valve and is operated by a spring loaded spindle. The spindle may be held raised with the valve open by a cross pin and the spindle turned to enable the cross pin to enter slots permitting the spindle to close the valve.
