[Also in Group XXVIII] In a fluid container such as a brewer's cask which is fitted with the socket A of a fluid conveying coupling, the socket A being entirely within the container and incorporating a selfclosing valve 5, 6 and 7 to close the socket and with one part 16 of a quick-release connection to co-operate with a complementary part 12 on a spigot R on a service component, the valve is opened by the spigot when the coupling is made ; the quick-release connection such as a bayonet joint, is so arranged that by turning the spigot socket relatively through a small angle locking and surfaces are moved into co-operation to prevent their axial withdrawal. The socket A is provided with an extension 2 opening into a bore 3 in a body 4, the valve being slidable within the latter and consisting of rubber and metal rings 5, 6 and 7, which are urged by a spring 8 towards a fixed valve seat 9 on a stem 10 ; the end of extension 2 is located a given distance from the container wall 1 by a projection 24. The spigot B which is received in the opposite end of the body 4 terminates in a part 11 that passes over the seat 9 ; upon coupling the parts A and B the valve is forced off its seat by the part, 11. The latter is formed with two bayonet grooves 12 that co-operate with two diametrically opposed pegs 16 on the body 4 ; the grooves may be provided on the socket A and the pegs on the spigot B. The socket A is secured to the container wall 1 and extends into the interior thereof, the body 4 having a flange 17 received in a counterbore in a ring 18 welded or otherwise secured to the wall 1, the body being held in position by a locking ring 19 incorporating holes 20, which latter ring may be masked by a disc during transit ; sealing is effected by a washer 21. The flange 17 may be secured to the wall 1 and the rings 18, 19 dispensed with. A socket A may be fitted to the side wall of a brewer's cask at each end thereof so that when the spigots B are coupled thereto the lower coupling leads to a draw-off cook and the upper one to a gas supply for venting purposes or to a pressure indicator.
