Abstract

617,841. Valves; lubricating. DUNNE, J. P. Oct. 11, 1946, No. 30409. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] A frusto-conical rotary valve 7 mounted in a cylinder head block 1 and controlling intake and exhaust passages 5, 6, is lubricated by means of a frusto-conical roller 15 supplied along its length with lubricating oil through a groove 16 in a bearing block 11. The valve 7 and roller 15 are pressed on their seats by springs and rotated in opposite directions by driving shafts engaging the fluted bores 21, 22. Alternatively, the roller 15 may be rotated merely by contact with the valve 7. A passage 19, connected to atmosphere through a filter, or to the induction pipe, vents mixture remaining in the valve pockets 8, 9, after the suction stroke.
