Abstract
568,971. Valves; lubrication. GALE, G. J. Nov. 24, 1943, No. 19595. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The inlet and exhaust passages of an internalcombustion engine or a compressor are each controlled by a rotary or oscillatory valve 6 provided with a port adapted to register with the passage and bearing against a seating having a central plane at right angles to the axis of the valve, the valves being totally enclosed in a detachable cylinder head. The valves 6 are disposed in recesses 7 in the cylinder head which is formed in two parts, the recesses being disposed in the lower part 3 so that the valves bear against the upper part 2, as shown, or being formed partly in each part. Connections 13 comprising tongues 13a and slots 13b set at right angles to one another connect the valves to stems 10 carrying intermeshing gears 11, 12. Lubricant may be forced into the recesses 7. In a multi-cylinder engine, one exhaust valve may control the exhaust passages of two cylinders.
