670,531. Admission and exhaust ducts. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. Aug. 3, 1949 [Aug. 4, 1948], No. 20226/49. Class 7(ii) In an internal combustion engine comprising at least one cylinder head 1 provided with inlet and exhaust valves 21, 20, the cylinder head has a pair of inlet ducts 6 and a pair of outlet ducts 7 controlled by the inlet valve 21 and the exhaust valve 20 respectively, and the ducts of each pair are located on opposite sides of the corresponding valve stem and have a crescent-shaped cross-section which is substantially concentric with said stem and is of the maximum cross-sectional area consistent with the size of the cylinder head. The valves 20, 21 are controlled from a cam-shaft 24 through cams 25, 26 and rockers 27, 28 respectively. The cylinder head cover is provided with an inspection hole 29 having a cover 31 to permit access to the cams. In a modification, Fig. 16 (not shown), a thirty-six cylinder engine is constructed with ducting as above and comprises nine sets of four cylinders.
