616,479. Doors. VARLEY, S. G., SMITH, N. W., and TAYLOR, C. T., (trading as TAVART CO., Ltd.). Sept. 5, 1946, No. 26749. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1945. [Class 20(iii)] Garage, shop &c. doors A counterbalanced for swinging overhead into a horizontal position have a pair of supporting units, each comprising a bracket 12 secured to the frame jamb B, a lever 8 with its fulcrum 13 on the bracket and its end 9 pivoted to the door and its other end connected to a spring 17 anchored by a bolt 18 to the jamb, and a drag link 10 pivoted to the bracket and to the door at a point remote from the lever pivot. The lever and link are secured to the door through an angle iron bar 7. Engagement of a stop 14 on the lever with the bracket limits the upward swinging and a stop D on the jamb the downward movement of the door. To enable the same size of unit to be used for doors of varying thickness, the link pivot P is mounted in a'slot in the bracket so that for a thicker door, when the link is approximately vertical with the door closed, the pivot may be secured slightly higher. A deeper stop D is also required. A number of alternative holes may be spaced along the lever for connection of the spring.
