Abstract

613,911. Building units; walls; floors. BELL. P. F.. and LOUDON, N. G. W. Jan. 31, 1945, Nos. 2471, 11143 and 12087. [Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] [Also in Group V] A reinforced plaster building unit comprises a core 9 of honey-comb form embedded in facing layers 10,11. The core and facings are reinforced with jute. scrim, sisal, felted sheet material or wire fabric Holes 14 may be formed in ,one facing for the injectior of plaster or cement for jointing units together or for the attachment of wall plugs, &c. The cell walls of the core may be at right angles or inclined to the facings. One facing 11 may be extended at 11b, Fig. 23, to form a rebated edge, reinforced concrete 25 being cast in the recesses so formed between adjacent units in the construction of floors, &c. For roofs, one facing layer may be of tapered cross-section. Ribs 17 may be provided on one facing to act as. distance pieces for wall surfacing boards. The connection between adjacent units may be strengthened by dowels 15 of rolled pieces of chicken wire or scrim embedded in the jointing plaster. For cavity walls, spaced units may be tied'together with strips of chicken wire. In a floor construction, the plaster units form the ceiling above which is laid corrugated iron on which is cast concrete to carry the usual floor boards. In the manufacture of the units, the core made by casting between suitable forms is embedded in a facing of plaster in a mould and after the facing has set is inverted into a further mould containing the second plaster facing.
