[Classes 20 (iv), 87 (i), and 107] Slabs for wall, floor paving, and like constructions comprise two outer layers b<1>, b<2> of hard material disposed on each side of an intermediate layer a of sound-insulating material and attached thereto without any direct connection between the two outer layers, and the edges of the intermediate layer of each slab are so disposed relatively to the edges of the outer layers that, when the slabs are assembled together, the intermediate layers a are continuous throughout the structure and the outer layers of adjacent slabs are separated to provide spaces c for binding material. The intermediate layer a is displaced relatively to the outer layers so that it projects to form tongues along two edges and is recessed along the other two edges. The spaces c are provided by arranging the tongues of greater depth than the recesses. The outer layers may be formed of plaster and clinker, and the intermediate layer of cement and wood fibre, or cork and cement or plaster, and these layers may either be moulded together or secured together by an adhesive. A layer d of material similar to that of the layer a may be interposed between the edges of the wall or paving and the adjacent parts of the building.
