Blocks, special shapes of; slabs. - Building blocks are formed with selfcentring hollow tongues on two contiguous edges, with corresponding recesses on the other two edges, the combination of tongue and groove forming an enclosed conduit from the escape of grout is prevented, and with pouring - holes for grout running to the spaces in the tongues from one side or face of the block. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the space 11 in the tongue is enlarged at intervals to form cement dowels 12 between the blocks and abutting shoulders are formed on each side of the tongue to prevent lateral leakage of the grouting material, which is admitted through inclined pouring-holes 14 leading to the face of the block. The recesses may be provided, as shown, with auxiliary tongues projecting into the spaces in the main tongue. Additional conduits 25, Fig. 5, may be provided to take the overflow of grouting material and may be fitted with wooden strips to receive nails 31. The blocks may be of hollow box-shape without a lid as shown in Fig. 5, and be provided with pouring-holes 14 in the lower flanges. The tongue- and-groove may take the form shown in Fig. 8. In some cases one face may have both tongues and grooves, the opposite face being formed to register therewith when the blocks are superposed.
