Class 20(4) A floor or wall is formed by a series of reinforced, prestressed concrete beams or planks laid side by side each having formed integrally on itself a layer of insulating material of expanded clay, foamed slag, vermiculite, lightweight concrete or a mixture of these materials, the insulating material being towards the inside of the room so that the floor or wall comprises a continuous layer thereof backed by a continuous layer of concrete. In the simplest form shown, the two layers are of approximately equal thickness, the prestressed concrete being cast first and the insulating material then cast on top. The prestressed layer may have, a strengthening web cast integral therewith. As shown in Fig. 3, the prestressed layer of concrete 15 has side walls 16 forming a channel 17 which is filled with insulating material and a layer 18 of the insulating material is cast on the concrete layer 15.
