Floors and ceilings are formed of prefabricated building beams 1 reinforced with pretensioned rods 4, the beams, placed side-by-side with their ends resting upon the walls, or supporting beams, of a building, 'being provided with a layer of concrete 6 upon their upper faces and a plate 8 secured beneath them. Additional reinforcements 7 are incorporated between the beams if it is desired to strengthen the structure, and where it is necessary to strengthen the meeting edges of the beams they are joined together by reinforcements and are concreted to be solid. To join beams 1 to a support beam 11, Fig. 6, the reinforcements 4, projecting from the edges of the beams, are placed in the mould for the support beam, after which the concrete is applied in the usual manner. The floor, Fig. 5, is formed of two layers of beams, sound attenuating material being placed between them if desired. In one form of floor construction, the'beams are laid at right angles to each other, and in another form the open faces of the beams in both layers face upwards. Walls constructed as described above may be covered with flat plates. The beams may be provided with solid covers for their open faces.
