Abstract

670,026. Reinforced concrete beams. MUMBY, W. H. June 9, 1950 [March 17, 1949], No. 7378/49. Class 20(iv) Lightweight beams of reinforced concrete or the like have an external reinforcement of extruded metal members into which the concrete is cast. In the form shown, the beam is built up from two parts, each consisting of an extruded aluminium channel section 1 filled with a mixture 2 of sand and cement. A bridge piece 4 and soffit plate 7 connected by a bolt 5 connect the two parts together, each beam section being additionally reinforced by bars 14. The outer sides of each channel web are formed with grooves 11 and 12 into which slides a flanged support 13 for floor slabs or joists.
