Abstract

755,951. Walls; shuttering for casting concrete walls. FOSTER, L. W. Aug. 12, 1954 [Aug. 18, 1953], No. 22784/53. Classes 20(2) and 20(4). A wall is formed by setting up a number of spaced load bearing stanchions a, Fig. 2, each of which has cavities b, securing shuttering to both faces of the stanchions and pouring no-fines concrete so as to fill both the spaces between the shuttering and also the cavities b, the faces of the wall being subsequently finished e.g. by application thereto of rendering on the outside and plastering on the inside. No-fines concrete is composed of cement and coarse aggregate without the fine aggregate of normal concrete and a large number of uniformly distributed voids are left throughout its mass. As shown, each stanchion a, Fig. 5, has four large cavities b and holes c are provided between them to receive bolts which secure the vertical light rolled steel channels e, Fig. 8, in position thus supporting the planking d. Sheets of galvanised iron secured to timber frames may be used instead of the planking d. Window frames f of reinforced concrete are provided where required. In long walls, an expansion joint is provided, between a pair of stanchions, about every 50 feet.
