[Class 20(ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A brick or like solid or cavity wall is erected and rendered on at least one face, by erecting uprights outside the corner sites of the proposed wall with means for fixing a vertically movable jig or template to the uprights at progressively increasing heights as wall construction proceeds, the jig serving as a guide for laying bricks which are spaced the thickness of the rendering from the jig, and serving also to confine mortar or other rendering between the facing member and the bricks. The rendering can be achieved in stages as individual bricks are mortared in, or the rendering can be filled in subsequently between the jig and the laid bricks. The uprights at a face of the wall which is not to be rendered may support a line. When applied to the construction of houses or other multiwalled buildings, all major walls are erected together in stages. Each upright at an internal corner may consist of an angle member 16, Fig. 1, having a footplate to receive a securing screw 18, and also a lug 19 carrying the upper ends of adjustable struts 21 secured at their feet by screws 23. The jigs 26 are of channel section, part of the flanges being removed to enable U- shaped plates 27 having clamping screws 29, to be welded to the webs, the jigs thereby engaging and being adjustably secured to the uprights. The uprights 17 at external corners are of Y-section, and are clamped in brackets 24, Fig. 3, which are held in place in the partially built wall by a removable brick. The member 17 is adjusted to the vertical by a set screw 25<1> and is clamped by screws 25. Lines 32, Fig. 4, for horizontals may be carried by brackets 34 having U - pieces engaging fianges on box section uprights 31. The lines are tensioned by springs at their anchorage points. The jigs 26 are supported at intermediate points along the length of the wall by uprights of T-section. The uprights 16, 17 are connected at their upper ends by a plate. Winches 40, Fig. 7, may be clamped at the upper ends of the uprights to facilitate the lifting of the jigs. Specification 236,956, [Class 20(ii)], is referred to.
