568,158. Concrete beams; floors. GRIP STEEL BAR CO., Ltd., and CHURCHILL, G. H. Aug. 12, 1943, No. 13061. [Class 20 (iv)] A reinforced concrete beam comprises a flange portion a and three webs b, c, d, the centre web c being substantially stronger than the individual side webs and having correspondingly proportioned metal reinforcements. The beams shown have reinforcing rods b<1>, b<2>, c', d<1>, d<2> of the same size and the centre web, which is 20 per cent larger in cross-section than the side webs, has a reinforcing rod c<2> of twice the cross-sectional area of the others. The edges of the beams are bevelled at e, or alternatively undercut, the recesses thus formed, when the beams are assembled side by side, being filled with grouting material. As shown, the ends a<1> of the beams are solid and are supported on a wall h and girder g and the flanges point downwardly. In a modification the beams are assembled with the flanges pointing upwardly and act as shuttering for an upper covering layer of concrete or other like material.
