Abstract
555,080. Concrete beams. ABELES, P. W. March 13, 1940, No. 7444/43. Divided out of 555,406. [Class 20 (iv)] A concrete beam of substantially semi-cylindrical cross-section has the main tensile reinforcement b<SP>1</SP> in a flattened central portion of the arch and has transverse reinforcements which are stresseed during the centrifugal moulding owing to their engagement with the longitudinal reinforcements. The beams may have flanges along their edges or may be provided with wooden fillets for the support of slabs, tiles &c., and may be filled with concrete which may itself be reinforced. The reinforcements may be exactly located during manufacture with the aid of concrete rings (not shown). The reinforcement may project from the ends to provide means for connecting the beam to other structural elements.
