Class 20(iv) In reinforced concrete floors, which are constructed by first forming girders on the site, by casting reinforced concrete betwen two rows of hollow laterally flanged. blocks of terra-cotta or the like, then placing the girders spaced apart on supports to span the floor space, interposing between each two adjacent girders a row of hollow, laterally flanged, filler blocks and finally filling the space between the rows and above the girder glocks to at least the level of the tops of the filler blocks with in situ concrete, transverse reinforcement of the floor is provided by chamfering the top edges of the ends of the filler blocks, to provide transverse troughs across the floor, in which are laid reinforcing bars. In the form shown, the concrete girders are made on site by laying two rows of flanged blocks 1 on a flat surface, inserting reinforcing bars 17<SP>1</SP> and 18<SP>1</SP> and casting concrete 19 between the rows. The girders are then laid with their ends on supports 21 and a row of hollow externally flanged filler blocks 2 as described in Specification 663,910 placed between each two girders, the flanges on the filler blocks resting on those on the girders so that the underfaces of the filler blocks and girder blocks lie in one plane. The top edge 18 of each end face of the filler blocks is chamfered so as to provide a V-shaped groove where two blocks 2 abut. Transverse bars 24 are laid in these grooves across the tops of the girders, and in situ concrete is cast to the level of or over the tops of the filler blocks to complete the floor. For a cantilever floor, additional reinforcement is inserted into the spaces 25 between the girders and filler blocks.
