Abstract
408,720. Tunnel &c. linings. COLVILLES, Ltd., 195, West George Street, Glasgow, and MACBRIDE, R. W., Glengarnock Works, Glengarnock, Ayrshire. Nov. 3, 1932, No. 30994. [Class 85.] A lining for tunnels and the like comprises channelled girders in spaced transverse planes, trough-section beams disposed side by side with their ends engaged in the channels of the girders, and means interposed between the beams and the girder flanges to lock the beam ends in engagement with the girders. As shown, the girders 6 have curved flanges and the beams 7 are of double trough section with side flanges 7<a>, 7b, Fig. 5, of adjacent beams overlapping. The base of each beam has an indent 7<c>, Fig. 4 engaged by one flange of the girder and the central upper flange of each beam has a slot 7<e> permitting driving of an apertured wedge 8 between the beam and the other flange of the girder. The girders may be in two parts connected at the top by intermeshing toothed members 9, Fig. 1, welded &c. to the girder ends and connected by bolts 10 ; alternatively, the joints may be made by fish plates or as described in Specification 407,456, [Group X]. During erection, the girders are supported by stilts comprising plates 21, 22, Fig. 3, connected by double bolts 23 and welded &c. nuts 24 and engaging the girders through wood pads 25. The girders may be formed of channelled sections connected back to back. If the lining is to be permanent, the girders or beams or both may be encased in concrete &c.
