Abstract

580,716. Kerbstones. LUCEY, C. Nov. 3, 1944, No. 21596. [Class 107] A kerbstone for a road island or pavement comprises a moulded block 1 provided at or near one or both ends with an anchorage member 11 or 11a by which it may be secured to a similar block, the anchorage member being either part of an end plate 25, or a strip which is rigidly connected to the other anchorage member of the block by bars such as 12, 13 and 26. The block is secured to the foundation 3 by means of anchorage bolts 19 passing through metalbushed holes, and by means of a recess 2 in its base, whilst the lower transverse edges may be chamfered to form drainage channels. Recesses 10 in the end faces, which may be parallel or inclined to each other, serve as hand grips, and reflecting studs 20 may be fixed in the bevelled face 8. In constructions such as islands, opposing blocks are connected by bracing members as well as to their adjacent blocks. The back of each block may be rabbeted as at 5 to receive concrete slabs or other filling 22.
