Abstract
523,024. Pavings. VASS, J. VON. Dec. 22, 1938, No. 37306. [Class 107] Roads are paved with plates or tiles 1 so shaped as to leave spaces 2, when assembled, to receive the heads of piles to anchor or support the paving. The spaces are of tapering form, and the piles may be of concrete cast in situ as at 5, may be precast concrete &c. 8 with a filling 9 of bitumen between the head and the plates, may comprise a precast reinforced concrete portion 10, the reinforcement projecting into the space 2, which space is then filled with concrete 11, or the piles may be compound, comprising a ceramic element 13 driven in between two other piles 15, 16 bitumen 14 filling the gap between the head of the pile 13, and the plates. The piles may be shouldered to support the plates independently of their support by the road &c. surface. The edges of the plates may interlock, as shown in Fig. 4, so that the plates 20 are supported solely by adjacent plates 19, which latter are supported by piles. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 241,403, [Class 87 (i)].
