Abstract

679,984. Roads; floors and paving; reinforced concrete; blocks. CEMENTATION CO., Ltd. April 6, 1951 [Feb. 27, 1950], No. 5025/50. Classes 20(iv), 87(i) and 107 A road, runway or floor of stressed concrete construction consists of a series of triangular blocks 1 laid on the virgin ground and spaced apart by their ribs 4 to form gaps 6 in which are laid steel wires 7, 7A in a zig-zag manner as shown. By wedging some blocks apart, the wires are tensioned and a grouting of high watercontent concrete is applied as shown in Fig. 6 at 8, partly filling the troughs 9. A top layer of low water-content concrete 10 is then laid over all and tamped. The tamping consolidates the concrete and forces the blocks apart so that the wires are additionally stressed. Other shaped blocks may be used but the blocks are preferably pre-cast concrete of a triangular prismatic shape, the ribs 4 being integral. Both ribs 4 and chamfers 3 are preferably at 45 degrees Insertable spacers may be used in place of ribs 4.
