Abstract

598,689. Building-slabs. MALTHOUSE, E. G. Nov. 6, 1945, No. 29460. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group V] Prefabricated building-slabs simulating brickwork are made by means of an open pattern 23, Fig. 1, the spaces 24 of which are filled with plastic material such as sand and concrete to form blocks 27, Fig. 5, the pattern is removed and the recesses 30 left by the pattern are filled with a different plastic material to simulate mortar. The recesses may be filled by surrounding blocks 27, Fig. 5, by planks 28, and a backing 29 is thus also formed. The pattern 23 is placed on a template 20, Fig. 1, formed with ribs 21 registering with the bars of the pattern, and adapted to form depressions in the simulated mortar. The connection between the blocks 27 and the backing 29 is secured by wire hooks. The materials used for the blocks 27, in the recesses 30 and for the backing may all differ in character. In a modification the pattern is formed of brick-shaped blocks 44, Fig. 11, and the recesses 47 are filled first. Bricks, slabs or hollow tiles may be used in the backing. The pattern may form inlaid signs, letters, numbers &c. Asphaltic and bituminous material may be used, such as bitumen emulsion mixed with sand, gravel, flint and whinstone. The ends of the slabs may be formed stepwise following the pointing so that they can be interfitted. Specification 573,233 and 598,683 are referred to.
