Class 20(4) A terrace or open air pavement comprises a bituminous layer 2, such as alternate layers of bitumen coated felt and bituminous substance coatings, on which a number of cylindrical, frusto-conical or like elements A<SP>11</SP> are placed having their axes at right angles to layer 2, the elements All supporting bars 5<SP>11</SP> which form a series of squares and have upper surfaces in the same plane as that of the upper faces of elements A<SP>11</SP>, the terrace being completed by a layer of sand 6 followed by a layer of concrete which is flush with the upper surfaces of the bars 5<SP>11</SP> and elements A<SP>11</SP>. The bars 5<SP>11</SP> may be hooked over apertured ears 3<SP>11</SP> on elements A<SP>11</SP>, or in a modification the bars are hollow and engage over projections of corresponding cross section on the elements A<SP>11</SP>. In a further form the elements have apertured arms to receive the bars, and each element rests on an enlarged base. The concrete may be marbled concrete. Some or all of the bars 5<SP>11</SP> may be removed and the channels formed thereby filled with bituminous asbestos mastic 7.
