Abstract

Continuous paving.- Tennis and like courts are made by casting concrete, asphalt, or other plastic material between collapsable partitions 18, 19, Figs. 2 and 3, then removing the partitions and filling in the spaces with plastic material, the upper layer of which may be coloured to form the marking lines. The partitions consist of angle-irons connected by bolts and slots; for long lengths, the joints of the angle-irons are staggered as shown in plan in Fig. 3. The layers 23, 24 of material are laid and levelled off flush with the upper edges of the partitions and then compressed by a tool such as that shown in Fig. 4, leaving a shallow space for the surface layer which may consist of cement and rounded sand grains, as described in Specifications 182,833 and 191,452. Or the material may be levelled off at a higher level than the partitions by means of a screening board and then be compressed by a lcng roller.
