Abstract

332,741. Cooke, L. July 18, 1929. Segmental and block paving. - Floors or roads are constructed of plastic material which is arranged in moulds constituted by a series of continuous metal strips laid in one direction over the area and a series of short metal strips laid transversely thereto, such strips having one or more longitudinal ribs projecting therefrom to key with the plastic material and being provided with flanges which are spiked or otherwise fastened to the foundation. The upper edges of the strips are flush with the wearing surface of the road or floor. The ribs may be in the form of V-shaped corrugations B and the securing flanges C may extend transversely from one or both sides of the strip, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, respectively. The nails or pegs for securing the strips to the foundation pass through holes in the flanges. In a modification, the strips may be formed by bending a single sheet of metal so as to form projections L and flanges M, as shown in Fig. 6. The strips may be of straight or curved form in plan and are arranged to form moulds of any desired shape. The sub-base may consist of wood, concrete, stone, or iron and in some cases the strips are secured to wooden beams or flooring. The plastic material may be terazzo, cement, asphalt, &c.
