Abstract

505,767. Moulding composite blocks. TAYLOR, A. B. Nov. 15, 1937, No. 31358. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group X] Building blocks are produced by cementing pieces of stone, slate, or shale 1 together in superposed mariner while preventing the cementitious material 2 from spreading to the outer parts of the stones by means of metal or wooden strips 4 so as to produce a block having " proud " stones on one or more sides. When making narrow blocks, the stones 1 may bo built against shuttering 6 which is removed when the cement has partly set. The block may be sawn along the lines A-A, B-B, or C-C, Fig. 3, to produce a block in which the faces of the stones 1 are coplanar or one in which the block has a smooth face of stone and cement. Mortar may be omitted from the plane of the saw cut to facilitate severance. A wall may be built by laying the blocks in superposed courses. Preferably the blocks are of other than rectangular form and the joints between the blocks are marked by filling them with mortar in which stones are embedded.
