Abstract
586,681. Building blocks. DICKSON, G., and WINGET, Ltd. May 2, 1944, No. 8282. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group V] A building block consists of two or more parallel slabs of cementitious material spaced apart by non-cementitious material, e.g., air, and joined by ties. One slab may be of concrete, cemented wood wool or other cementitious material suitable for inner surfaces of buildings and may have a backing layer of concrete on its inner surface, the succeeding slabs being concrete. The figure illustrates the manufacture of the blocks, a preformed slab 1 with ties 3, 4 projecting from it being placed in a mould 9, 10, a layer of non-cementitious material 2, which may be sand or ashes which will ultimately fall away to leave a hollow, laid on top and concrete 8 finally cast on the layer of sand &c. A concrete backing layer may first be cast on the preformed slab before covering with the sand &c.
